Yu-Gi-Oh TCG Detonating Kuriboh

Published:

Every now and again, Konami will launch a card packaged with the latest issue of shōnen manga magazine V Jump. The next of these will be Detonating Kuriboh, a card to be distributed with the July 2024 issue of V Jump which will be released on 21 May 2024.

Fitting for a card making its series debut in a shōnen manga magazine, this card contains a clear allusion to the Yu-Gi-Oh anime. Its effect refers to Dark Yugi’s duel against Maximillion Pegasus when Yugi used his Kuriboh card to counter the effect of the Thousand-Eyes Restrict card. The card’s illustration references this as well–Thousand-Eyes Restrict is clearly visible in the image.

When the opponent activates a monster’s effect on the field, the player can equip this card to the opponent’s monster in question to negate that effect—exactly what Dark Yugi did in that sequence. Additionally, its Special Summoning effect refers to Dark Yugi’s activation of Multiply to divide Kuriboh into countless copies.

What makes this especially interesting is the fact that this card’s attribute is Dark. In most prior instances of cards that reference the anime, cards which were portrayed as being of the Dark attribute were reclassified for the TCG. This, however, isn’t the case with this card.

It’s unlikely that this card will ever be released in English.

The retail price of the Detonating Kuriboh (V Jump July 2024 Promotional Card VJMP-JP254) will only be known once it hits the open market. Stay with us for further information.
