When the 2022 Topps Chrome Baseball checklist was released, there were five additional short prints at the end of the base set. Because 2022 Topps Chrome High Number Short Prints weren’t listed on the original info for the set, little was known about them or how often they would land in packs.
It didn’t take long for collectors and breakers to realize that it wasn’t often. It turns out it was even less than that. They weren’t in any hobby or jumbo packs at all.
Topps released a statement Monday night on social media addressing the High Numbers. In it they state that there was a miscommunication at the manufacturing level. Because they were late additions to the product, something happened and they weren’t included in packs.
However, that doesn’t mean that the end of the 2022 Topps Chrome High Number Short Prints.
Although they’re still working out the details, Topps did announce that they’re creating special two-card silver packs. The five short prints, which include Julio Rodriguez and Bobby Witt Jr., will be randomly inserted in these packs.
Topps will send out one pack for each hobby box that was purchased through their site. They’ll also be working with distributors and breakers to help get the new packs to collectors who bought boxes through them at the same rate.
Their statement does not mention how frequently the short prints will land in the Silver Packs or the other cards that will be in them. At this point it only highlights hobby boxes so it’s unknown if the offer applies other hobby configurations like jumbo and LITE. Topps did say they were still working out the logistics and that they’d have more info once they iron out the details.
