Hey friends, welcome back to Budget Commander! Last week I asked which Commander I should write about next and the overwhelming majority picked everyone’s favorite vanilla, Yargle and Multani! Let’s do this!
Not Just A Meme!
Yargle and Multani is unquestionably a delicious meme, but it also happens to be surprisingly powerful, sporting the highest fixed power on any creature at a whopping 18! Such a high power creature in our command zone allows for some delicious brew potential!
18 power means that we just need to pump for 3 in order to deal lethal 21 Commander damage. There’s a couple ways to do this, my favorite two being Indomitable Might and Demonic Embrace which pump the required amount while also providing evasion.
But really that’s just scratching the surface of the Commander! What I’m more interested in is utilizing the high power and making it a focal point of the deck!
We are running a TON of cards that scale based on power: with M&Y out, our Monstrous Onslaught is a one-sided wipe, and Traverse the Outlands ramps 18 lands!
Or how about we casually draw 18 cards off Rishkar’s Expertise, Return of the Wildspeaker, Garruk, Primal Hunter, Hunter’s Insight, and so on? Sounds good?
We also have multiple spells that drain our opponents for 18 like Essence Harvest, Rite of Consumption, Dying Wish, and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord! Who needs to attack anyway?
We run all the 1 mana reanimate protection like Undying Evil both to protect Yargle but also to fuel our sacrifice synergies. Attack with Yargle, slap Undying Evil on him, sac him to Greater Good, and get him back!
In case our Commander is shut down, we have a few backup high power creatures to get the job done, including the OGÂ Yargle!
So that’s the deck: Go Tall Sacrifice! Play our huge creatures, smash in, and sac them for more value!
$69 List
The list is $69 at the time of writing. Enough said.
Further Upgrades
If you want to upgrade the deck beyond $69 (y tho) here are some thoughts
