2022-23 Upper Deck Black Diamond Hockey Details

Much of 2022-23 Upper Deck Black Diamond Hockey will have a familiar ring to those who have been following the line for the last several years. It remains one of the sport’s premium releases with card lines that feature things like autographs, modern technology and even diamonds.

Six-card hobby boxes are led by an autograph or gem card. Three total tech inserts or memorabilia cards are also part of the mix, as is an Exquisite Collection card.

2022-23 Upper Deck Black Diamond Hockey Checklist Overview

The main shell set has 100 top stars. Base versions are numbered to 349 with additional Red (/75), Blue (/25), Green (/10) and Gold (1/1) parallels. Pure Black Autographs (1/1) are available for select cards.

Additional Diamond Relics parallels (/5) have, depending on the player, between one and four diamonds. These also have one-of-one Pure Black versions.

Diamond Relic Rookies (/99) take a similar tiered gem approach. The number of diamonds loosely corresponds with their perceived future potential, the best being four. Ruby (/49), Purple (/25), Emerald (/10) and Pure Black (1/1) parallels exist as well.

Diamond Relic Rookies Retro Quad have the same levels and parallels as the standard Diamond Relic Rookies.

Autographs

Shimmering Signatures (1:40 packs) is one of the new additions to the 2022-23 Upper Deck Black Diamond Hockey checklist. These die-cut cards also have serial numbered Spectrum parallels.

Sparkling Scripts have both veteran (1:6 packs) and rookie (1:10 packs) versions. In both instances, there are also Spectrum parallels that have 25 copies each.

One autograph line that isn’t going anywhere is Gemography (/25) and its mix of veteran and rookie signers. Ruby (/15), Purple (/10), Emerald (/5) and Pure Black (1/1) takes join the base versions.

Jewels of the Draft and All-Time Jewels of the Draft return, too, with one of Black Diamond’s autograph patch combinations.

Memorabilia Cards and Manufactured Patches

Diamond Mine Relics (1:4 packs) bring swatches to the checklist. Dual (1:10 packs) and Triple (1:20 packs) versions can be found as well. All three levels also have Premium parallels numbered to 25 and under.

When it comes to Stanley Cup wins, the Montreal Canadiens are the greatest team in the history of the NHL. Over the decades, plenty of legends have skated for the Habs and left their mark on the game. Habs Retired Numbers Patches highlight some of the very best with a manufactured patch meant to replicate the ones that have been raised to the rafters in Montreal. Base versions have 99 copies while Gold parallels, some of which have autographs, come numbered to the player’s jersey number.

Cup Winners Patches (1:13 packs) is all about those who have their name etched on Lord Stanley’s trophy. Gold parallels come in varying quantities, some with signatures.

For those looking for a set building challenge, there are Team Logo Jumbo Patches (1:5 packs). These manufactured relics can go together to form larger whole pieces. Each of the product’s five team themes have nine cards: 2022 All-Stars, Anaheim Ducks, Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs. Retro Logo versions are 1:15 packs while Gold Full Team Logo (/15), Full Team Alternate Logo (/5) and Gold NHL Shield Logo (1/1) parallels are also available.

Rookie Team Logo Jumbo Patches (1:3 packs) are on the checklist as well along with Retro Logo Variants (1:10 packs), Full Logo Patch Autographs (/99 or less) and NHL Logo Shield Patch Autographs (1/1).

Additional Inserts

Band of Color makes its sophomore appearance. In addition to a colorful design, these have six different gems that run the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Veterans have just 22 copies each while rookies make like Michael Jordan with 23.

Diamond Stars, Diamond Futures and Diamond Legends all embody the brand’s premium printing as they’re done with striking Silver Spectrum Light FX. Base versions have 299 copies while Purple parallels have 49. These also have a mix of numbered autographs and autographed memorabilia cards. Additional auto memorabilia parallels are tough, limited to just Purple (/10) and Pure Black (1/1).

First-year standouts are the focus of Rookie Gems (/399). Parallels include Red (/100) and Green (/10) as well as autographs for some.

Other inserts include Diamond Facet (1:10 packs), Diamond Gallery (1:10 packs), Diamond Might (/99), Diamonation (/99) and Run for the Cup (/99).

2022-23 Exquisite Collection Hockey

Exquisite Collection has been Upper Deck’s luxury line since it debuted in basketball in 2003-04. Hockey has The Cup so Exquisite is typically spread across several of the sports high-end lines — like Black Diamond.

These one-per-box cards come in a few forms. Standard cards include Veterans (/399), Rookies (/399) and Rookie Draft Day (/349). Gold (/99, Rookie Draft Day /75) and Gold Spectrum (/25, Rookie Draft Day #/player’s draft position) versions are also available.

Exquisite Moments (/299) feature highlights and specific achievements. The parallel lineup for these consists of Gold (/99), Silver (/49) and Gold Spectrum (/25).

2008-09 Retro Veterans and 2008-09 Retro Rookies go back 15 years for their design inspiration. These also have Gold (/99) and Gold Spectrum (/25) versions.

Exquisite has some memorabilia cards as well starting with Veteran Materials, Rookies Patch (/99) and Rookie Jumbo Materials (/10). Gold and Gold Spectrum parallels have even smaller numbers.
