He’s one of the hottest quarterbacks in the NFL, both on the field and with collectors. For those looking beyond traditional Rookie Cards, here are 10 cool Josh Allen inserts to consider.
2018 Donruss Optic Downtown #DT14 Josh Allen
The Downtown insert in Donruss and Donruss Optic has become one of the most popular case hits (one in 240 packs) in the hobby, featuring a city-themed design. Allen had one his rookie year in Optic. There is a 1-of-1 Gold Vinyl version.
2018 Panini Prizm Stained Glass Prizms #SG8 Josh Allen
Prizm is mostly a parallel product, but Stained Glass was a cool addition to the 2017 release that continued for 2018. The colorful geometric patterns in a window-shape design looks like something you’d see in a church building. The stained-glass design exists in other products, but this was a big hit in 2018 Prizm. Expect to pay nearly $1,000 for Allen’s. There is a Gold Mojo parallel numbered to 10 and a 1-of-1 Black Finite.
2018 Panini Kaboom #KJA Josh Allen
Kaboom debuted in football in 2018 Absolute and has continued since. The comic book-like player image in a dynamic pose against an explosive background is one of the most recognizable designs in the hobby. Even the card back features a comic design. The basic version has a silver background, and there’s a Gold parallel numbered to 10 plus a 1-of-1 Green. Allen also has a Kaboom in 2021 Absolute.
2018 Donruss The Rookies #R4 Josh Allen
Forty rookies were included in The Rookies insert in 2018 Donruss. They feature a checkerboard background and foil printing. A consolation prize to the base Rated Rookie RC, these are some of the most popular rookie inserts of the more mainstream products. An autographed version is numbered to just 10.
2018 Panini Flawless Dual Diamond Memorabilia #DD-KA Jim Kelly/Josh Allen
This is a cool tie-in with Jim Kelly, the Bills’ all-time leader in completions, passing yards and touchdowns. Allen already ranks fourth in yards and third in touchdowns in franchise history. This card numbered to 20. Parallels are Silver numbered to 15, Ruby to 10, Sapphire to 5, Emerald to 3 and 1-of-1 Platinum.
2018 Panini Luminance Dynamic #13 Josh Allen
This is a simple insert for around $20. It’s an early rookie-year release, so it still pictures Allen in his Wyoming uniform albeit with a dynamic action shot of him running. It’s fitting since he’s an underrated runner who’s already rushed for more than 2,300 yards and 31 touchdowns in his first four seasons. Luminance is one of the best products for photography, and the dark gradient creates a dramatic look.
2020 Panini Prizm Color Blast #10 Josh Allen
Color Blast has arguably become the most sought-after non-autographed insert in the hobby. In Golden Ticket form, you’d have to bust 120 boxes (10 cases) on average to find one. They debuted in 2019 but Allen’s first one came in 2020. The explosion of color and minimalist design is an awesome eye-catcher. He has a second in 2021 Prizm, and a spin-off version in the Obsidian brand with a black background.
2021 Panini Flawless Triple Patches #3 Patrick Mahomes/Josh Allen/Justin Herbert
You knew a card like this was coming soon. Three of the elite young quarterbacks on one card each with a patch swatch. All three have been in the top 10 in passing yards the past two seasons. The regular one is numbered to 25. Parallels include Silver numbered to 20, Ruby to 15, Sapphire to 10, Emerald to 5 and 1-of-1 Platinum.
2021 Panini National Treasures Century Materials #57 Josh Allen
If you want a patch card from a high-end brand that’s not hard to find, this Century Materials from National Treasures goes for around $70 and is numbered to 99. The price doesn’t fluctuate much for the higher-numbered parallels. However, you likely will find better patches among the parallel levels, which include Gold numbered to 49, Holo Silver to 25, Holo Gold to 10, Emerald to 5 and 1-of-1 Platinum.
2021 Panini Contenders Optic Lottery Ticket #7 Josh Allen
A spinoff of the Winning Ticket insert in 2021 Contenders, this Lottery Ticket has a colorful design with numbered lottery balls. It’s tough to find with no announced insertion ratio. Parallels are Black Scope numbered to 25, Gold to 10 and a 1-of-1 Gold Vinyl.
